Here's a pic of where Steve and I are staying:
I love being up here. It's a real getaway since there's no internet or cell-phone access at the cabin. It's wonderful to put everything aside and just dig on nature for awhile. Sometimes, nature digs on me, a bit too much. First night up here I went out on my kayak and pedaled around (That's right, pedaled, not paddaled. My kayak has foot-pedals.) My bare feet presenting a banquet for the black flies, which of course I didn't notice biting me until it was too late (you never do.) I'm allergic to them, apparently, and by the time I got back in they were swollen like little balloons and I could barely walk. Burned and itched like hell, too. I'm a slow learner. I had the damn bug spray with me, but I hadn't used it. Idiot.
At least, having been through this before I knew what to do and I soaked them in icewater and calomile lotion. By the next morning I was able to walk on them without much discomfort and by today, they're pretty much back to normal. Okay, so I use the damn bug spray next time. (I hate that stuff. But not as much as having big puffy feet.)
I'm hoping to get some writing done while I'm up here. So far it's been pretty busy but I have done some. I'll just try to do a little here and there and hope for the best.
Steve's sister and her two teenage kids are up here with us and we're all having a good time together. Yesterday we went canoeing and last night, the flying squirrels showed up at the bird feeder and the kids got a big kick out of that. Little sugar gliders. We can see them from our porch and they really put on a show.
Now, I'm going to sign off, and drive back to the cottage, and get back to vacating.
Very pretty. :) And empathy for the bites. [wince] I'm horribly allergic to the bite of anything with more than four legs, so I know exactly how that feels. I hope you have a great time other than that!
